ROSE SHOW AT DALLAS ARBORETUM APRIL 28

Dallas, TXA Rose Show at the Dallas Arboretum thumbs its nose to the traditional thought that Dallas is a difficult place to cultivate roses. The Dallas Rose Society will present its spring show, open to the public, on Saturday, April 28, from 12pm to 4pm at Rosine Hall in the Dallas Arboretum, and will display the best and many uncommon varieties of this romantic flower.

“It’s an obsession,” Turner Hasty, President of the Dallas Rose Society said. “For people who are fond of roses, the bug usually struck them when they were young, and they were hooked.”

Hasty, who has been growing roses since 1962, said the show is special because is attracts visitors and exhibitors from such a large area, including all parts of Texas and Oklahoma. Consulting Rosarians will be on hand to answer questions about growing roses in the Dallas area. The show will feature a judged competition among all modern and antique roses, including both large and miniature varieties. All judges are certified by The American Rose Society, and competition is open to anyone who wishes to apply. There is a special category for first time exhibitors. There is no entry fee, and those wishing to enter the competition should call Turner Hasty at 214.350.7023.

The week before the show, an Adult Education Class will be offered at the Arboretum about called “A Cut Above: Rose Propagation,” on April 14. Prices and registration for the class can be found at dallasarboretum.org. Admission to the Bonsai and Daffodil Shows are free with general admission to the gardens: $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for children 3-12 and free for Arboretum members and children 2 and under. On-site parking is $5. For more information and other events, call 214.515.6500 or visit the Arboretum’s website at dallasarboretum.org.
