A fantasy world filled
with more marionettes, ornaments and figurative art than even
the most seasoned collector can imagine, awaits guests at The
Dallas Arboretum this holiday season. Arboretum benefactors John
and Kim Semyan have lent a large part of their 10,000-piece
holiday collection to decorate the historic DeGolyer Estate on
the grounds of the botanical gardens. Christmas designer,
Michael Hamilton, from the Noel Christmas Store in Dallas, Tx,
is the mastermind behind this year’s Christmas decorating within
the DeGolyer home. Guests of The Dallas Arboretum will be
transported back to the pages of beloved fairy tales with the
help of various decorative vignettes that will be placed
throughout the DeGolyer home. Each vignette, nestled within
hundreds of festive holiday decorations and lights, will tell
beloved stories and nursery rhymes including ‘Rumplestiltskin’,
‘Rapunzel’, ‘Puss in Boots’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Old Woman
in the Shoe’ and many more. Adults and children alike can read
the story as they see the characters set the scene for some of
the most famous stories in history. The pieces of figurative art
that tell each story are handcrafted by renowned artists Lynn
West and Faith Wick. Artist Jacqueline Kent will also be
featured throughout the collection in the DeGolyer home.
Jacqueline is known for her specific design of her Fairy
Godmothers and Santa characters. Each facial design is quite
remarkable, almost making each character come to life. Their
exquisite costumes and facial expressions make the addition of
Jaqueline Kent to the Semyan collection unforgettable! Famed for
their love of Byers’ Choice Carolers, the Semyan’s have also
added 15 new creations by German marionette maker Maximiliane
Kiermeier of Munich to this year’s holiday array. “Maxi’’, as
she is known, handcrafts theater puppets that stand
approximately three feet tall. Their exquisite detail truly
captures the Semyan’s love of whimsy and fun that flows
throughout their collection. Other exciting displays throughout
the DeGolyer home include wood turned ornaments by artist Kevin
Bassett, trees filled with hundreds of ornaments by Christopher
Radko as well as a Jack in the Box Christmas tree and a Music
Box Christmas tree that will be placed in the home. Continuous
tours throughout the DeGoyler home are held daily beginning at
10am and the last tour starts at 4pm
