Intern
Enthusiastic, detailed oriented individual to assist Director of
Event Programming in public event/festival logistical set up and
execution. Expected need is through November and about 24+ hours are
needed. Must be able to work variable hours to include night
concerts, weekend festivals and holidays. Ability to work outside
for extended periods and lift 25lbs. Great opportunity for those who
desire learning about event planning and logistical management.
Public Relations Intern
Assist with writing media releases for events, educational classes,
feature stories. Follow up with media sources to promote placement;
assemble and mail press packets and coordinate media tours and live
broadcasts. Update media contact database. Great writing skills,
outgoing personality for persistent media relations and article
placement and follow up.
Education
Summer Internship $9/hour
June 3 - August 15, 2008 40 hours a week Education interns will work
with staff to develop children and family programming. The interns
will also work in our children's summer camps and participate in
weekly meetings, field trips and presentations by experts from local
not-for-profits. Experience working with children is a plus. Desire
to work with children in nature is a must. Eligible students are
those enrolled fulltime in college. To apply, submit a cover letter

Horticulture
Landscape Internship and Trial Research Program Internship
The Dallas Arboretum is a 66 acre display garden. Plant Trial
research is also conducted here and is in place to evaluate and
introduce new annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs and tropicals into
the North Texas area. We do independent plant trials as well as
conjunct research with All-America Selections, which is the oldest,
international-independent testing organization in North America to
evaluate seed grown flowers for introduction across the U.S.
Our Horticulture Landscape intern will assist the Director of
Horticulture Operations and staff in daily duties consisting of
basic garden maintenance, fertilizing, watering, chemical
applications etc. Interns will rotate around the garden, working in
different areas with different supervisors gaining experience in the
details of a botanical garden.
Our Trial Research Program intern will assist the Trial
Research Manager with day to day activities such as bed maintenance
and watering. They will also assist with compiling data,
measurements, and will have a project that will be solely theirs to
complete. Work will also be done assisting the Greenhouse Manager
with propagation, greenhouse maintenance, and organization
Interns will also have a project of their own to oversee and manage.
Someone who is passionate about plants and wants to expand their
knowledge, has good organizational and time management skills, knows
Microsoft Excel and Word Processes, and enjoys being outdoors would
be great candidates. Intern stipend is $9/hour for a 25 to 40 hour
work week depending on time of year and work load.

Graphics
Interns
Our Graphics Department is looking for a highly motivated individual
to fill an unpaid intern graphics production artist position.
Applicants should have a good eye for design and a working knowledge
of Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Our internship program
provides meaningful and challenging projects such as production
skills to build press ready files and provides the opportunity to
work on well-known publishing projects (magazines, newspapers & web
design). Responsibilities include assisting the graphics production
artist in creating layouts for ads, newsletters, signs and other
different projects, editing digital images, performing simple art
direction, compositing images and creating basic artwork. This is
not a creative position, the intern must follow the Arboretum's
style guide and be consistent in the look of ads, newsletters,
website and all print and digital media.
Candidates
will have at least Junior status and be working towards a Bachelor's
Degree in Fine Arts with emphasis in Graphic Design, Interactive
Media Design, Advertising or related degree .
