Glass with Class: Fused Glass Panel
Glass is one of the hottest materials in the art world. Join Robin Oldham, owner of Smashing Times, as she shows you how to create your own beautiful fused glass panel to display in your home. You will design your own unique work of art as you learn how to cut the glass and embellish your glass panel. For the Birds – Ceramic Bird Bath
Learn how to make this stunning handmade birdbath that will bring the songbirds to your garden. Lynn will share great techniques to adorn your birdbath. During the first week of class, you will design and construct your birdbath. During the second week of class, you will finish embellishing and glazing your birdbath.
Your piece will be a unique work of art that you can proudly display or give as a gift!  Space is limited, so sign up early!

Painting with Pastels
Pastel painting is a wonderful pastime that is both portable and fun. Join Karen Vanderpool-Haerle, experienced artist and ArtScape Artist, as she helps you develop an understanding of color and composition using pastels.  Learn the basic techniques of pastels from the beginning sketch to final painting. Enjoy the flexibility and tactile aspects of soft pastel while learning about materials, composition and color blending. You will produce stunning results when you learn to translate the landscape, still life and photographs by layering the pastels to achieve different colors and light. This class is suitable for all skill levels and all supplies will be provided.

Stroke of Genius: Watercolor Workshops
Join award winning artist and experienced instructor, Michael Borne, as he introduces you to the wonderful world of watercolor painting. Each of these day-long workshops are designed for new and experienced artists. Michael will introduce you to the tools of watercolor painting, and begin the journey to inspire budding and experienced artists. Through demonstration and hands-on exercises, you will learn about design composition, working with colors and how to draw and paint florals, trees and landscapes. During each session you will continue to develop your painting skills as you explore natural forms, silhouettes, sketching in perspective, patterns and shapes in watercolor painting. You will also learn about shades & shadows as well as controlling washes and painting textures. Each day of painting will expand your enjoyment of this wonderful pastime and give you the foundation and confidence to continue your personal journey as an artist. A special May session with artist Carol Vystrcil Scott, award winning artist, has been added this semester to offer you a variety of instruction and meet the increased demand for watercolor classes. Photographing the Wildflower of Texas

Want the chance to get away and immerse yourself in a stunning floral landscape while expanding your photographic skills? Then pack your camera bag and get ready to head into the Brenham, Texas countryside with master photographer and former Senior Photography Editor for Southern Living magazine, Allen Rokach as he takes you on location from April 8-11. Whether you’re an experienced shutterbug or just getting your feet wet, Allen will show you how to capture the spectacle of color as bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and other wildflowers come into bloom. Through lectures, field sessions and review sessions, you will receive in-depth instruction on making the best use of natural light throughout the day. Supply list available online. Allen’s class at the Arboretum sold out last year, so be sure to register early! Space is limited and rooms are double occupancy.

The Silk Road
Let Linda Disosway, accomplished fiber artist and owner of Designs-n-Disosway, introduce you to these two beautiful Asian arts. Learn to create beautiful and unique works of art. To Dye For: Shibori Fabric Dying
This ancient Japanese technique of dying fabric was once used to create beautiful designs on kimonos. Linda will show you how to create a one-of-a-kind work of art that you can wear or display. Using resist dying techniques you will focus on stitching on fabric to create beautiful designs on silk. No special artistic skills are necessary and all supplies will be provided. 4/17 from 9am – 1pm; $50 or $45 for Members

Hand Painting on Silk
Learn how to create a stunning and colorful piece of art.  Linda will teach you basic silk painting techniques, design layout, color mixing and other special effects so that you can make unique pieces of art.  What a great gift for Mother’s Day! Beginning PMC- Silver Leaf Pendant
Imagine being able to capture a piece of the garden and preserve it forever in pure silver. Using Precious Metal Clay(PMC), Cheryl Lucas, owner of PMC Texas and certified PMC instructor, will show you how to transform a piece of nature into a stunning leaf pendant using leaves from the garden. Materials include enough silver clay to make one to three pendants, depending upon size. These beautiful pendants make great gifts. If you have ever wanted to try your hand at making silver jewelry, but didn’t know where to start, this is the class for you. No experience is necessary and all supplies will be provided.
