The first part of the class will look at garden design history – both formal and informal – and be followed by the basic principles used when designing your own garden. The second part will give you hands-on practice, where you will have the opportunity to design your own gardens. Bring photos, property surveys, site plans, house plans, and measurements of your yard to help jump start the design process. Bring your lunch or pick something up at the dining terrace.

Trial Gardens at the Arboretum

We are lucky to have two beautiful trial gardens at the Arboretum that you can use to find the best plants for your garden. Join Jenny Wegley, Greenhouse and Trial Garden Manager at the Arboretum, as she gives you a behind the scenes look at what goes into our trial program. Jenny will share some of the winners in our trial program and then take you on a walking tour of the gardens in all of their fall glory.
  Next, she will take you on a behind the scenes tour of our greenhouses so that you can see where many of the plants are grown out before they go in the trial beds. Come find out what our trial programs are all about and how you can start applying our research into your garden!
