Sights & Sounds of Winter Birds - It’s winter in Texas and a great time to dust off your binoculars and identify birds that migrate to our area this time of year. David and Carolyn Oldham, members of the Audubon Society and avid birdwatchers, will show you how to identify year-round residents and seasonal migrants as well as the birds most common to this area. This class will include a brief tour on our nature trail to share some bird watching tips. The White Rock Lake area has a large variety of beautiful birds that are just waiting to put on a show for you! Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!  The Backyard Florist – Look at your yard from a whole new perspective. C.A. Hiscock, Dallas County Master Gardener, will show you how to use common and not-so-common plant material from your winter garden and landscape to create one of a kind floral arrangements and table centerpieces. She will also demonstrate how to use unexpected materials from your garden to design unique arrangements that are easy to create, economical and beautiful. Grocery Bouquet to Floral Array
Brighten up your home this spring with fresh, fragrant floral arrangements that you can make yourself. Please be sure to bring a store bought bouquet of flowers and clippers or a floral knife. Sign up for all three classes by February 22 and pay only $99 or $90 for Members

·         A Beautiful Box of Flowers – Cecilia Manouel, AIFD, lead floral designer for Central Market in Plano, will show you unique and creative ways to design an arrangement in a beautiful square glass vase. April 26 from 9am – 11am; $40 or $36 for Members

·         The Tropics in Bloom – Gregg Hoppe, AIFD, will show you how to use beautiful tropical flowers to create a unique and contemporary arrangement. May 17 from 9am – 11am; $35, or $32 for Members

Hypertufa – Creating Your Own Garden Containers – Modeled after the old stone watering troughs of England, these versatile containers can be constructed into a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Susan Morgan and Amy McCaslin, Dallas Arboretum horticulturists, will show you how to create these durable planters made of sand, peat moss and Portland cement. Handcast your own charming hypertufa container that you will be able to take home at the end of class. Fee includes supplies. March 15 from 12pm – 3pm; $40 or $36 for Members 

The Hunting: Legendary Plant Hunters – Many of the plants that we know and love are from locations around the globe. Join Nancy Furth, nature lover and Collin County Master Gardener, as she takes you on a journey to learn about the remarkable lives and expeditions of some of the most well known plant explorers including both John Tradescants, the elder and younger, John and William Bartram and more. Find out what inspired the Golden Age of Botany as you listen to stories of their treks and finds and also catch up on current-day plant hunters closer to home. March 29 from 9am -11am; $22, or $20 for Members

Photo Journaling – Look at life through a whole new lens! Join Donna Bearden and Kathleen Martin, writers, photographers and artists, as they show you how to journal with and through photography This playful and creative process uses pictures and words as a jumping off point for exploring deep questions, beliefs and emotions. Different from a diary, this is a method of processing your thoughts rather than recording daily events.  Join us for this interactive and thought provoking workshop that will show you new ways to enjoy and express your love of the world around you. Bubble, Bubble, No toil & No Trouble: Soap Making Basics – Give your skin the luxurious treatment it deserves when you learn how to make your own handmade soap.  David Fisher, Guide to Candle and Soap Making at About.com, will show you the basics of making soap from scratch.  You will learn how soap is made as well as how to incorporate fragrance and color to make bars of soap that are creative and unique.
