Back to the Future: Ideas & Inspirations from Frederick Law Olmsted
The father of Landscape Architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted, shared a unique vision for the future through his vast collection of work around the country. Kathy Kinney, American studies educator and Arboretum staff, will share some of Olmsted’s most well known projects including Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina and the community of Riverside, Illinois and show how Olmsted’s love of nature and his belief in its redemptive power is the overarching theme in his designs. She will discuss some of his design theories and show you how you can apply some of his timeless techniques in your own landscape.

Bubble, Bubble, No toil & No Trouble: Soap Making Basics
Melt and pour soap making is an easy, quick and creative way to make your own luxurious custom soaps in a wide range of styles, scents and types.  David Fisher, Guide to Candle and Soap Making at About.com, will show you the basics of making soap the melt and pour way. You will learn the basics of soap making and make your own bars of soap that are creative and unique. Join us for this fun demonstration class and go home with instructions, materials and supplies to continue this enjoyable pastime.
