BENCHES
The Dallas Arboretum would like to thank you for inquiring about our Park Bench Honorarium Program. The following is a list of frequently asked questions.
Can I pick any bench in the Dallas Arboretum for an honorarium?
Specific benches within the gardens have been designated for honorariums. An Arboretum staff member can help you select the perfect bench during a walk-through of the gardens. Please note that the Arboretum gives extraordinary care to its facilities. If you choose an honorarium, there is no better place to give it life than the Dallas Arboretum.
How are benches marked?
The Arboretum has a standardized labeling system throughout the gardens. The label used for benches measures 5” by 1” and is made of brass with a permanent glued backing. One of these labels is made and affixed to the top of the front of each wooden bench and to the side frame of each metal bench.
What can I put on the bench label?
The label has a maximum of three lines of type, and the label can accommodate approximately 50 characters, including spaces and punctuation. We recommend wording such as “In tribute to…”, “In honor of…”, “On the birth of …”, etc. The wording is subject to approval by the Arboretum.
What is the normal contribution for a bench?
There are several different benches in the garden and the cost ranges from $3,000 to $5,000 depending on the location. Children’s benches are $1,500.
Can other family members or friends be notified of a bench honorarium?
Yes, we take special care to notify individuals with a personal letter that will include specific information about the bench and its location.
TREE HONORARIUM PROGRAM
We invite you to select a tree to honor or recognize someone special in your life. Specific trees within the gardens have been designated for tree honorariums. There are many beautiful varieties of trees available. An Arboretum staff member will personally tour the gardens with you to select the perfect tree. Each tree is placed within the garden as an integral part of that garden’s design. The Arboretum gives extraordinary care to its trees: pruning, fertilizing and watering regularly to ensure your long-term gift.
How are trees marked?
The Arboretum has a standardized labeling system throughout the gardens. The label used for trees measures 3” by 5” and is made of black metal with silver lettering. It stands on a black metal stake.
What can I put on the tree label?
The label has a maximum of four lines of type. The first two lines are reserved for botanical information: botanical name of tree and common name. The bottom portion of the label is reserved for your message and is subject to approval by the Arboretum. These two lines can accommodate approximately 87 characters, including spaces and punctuation. We recommend wording such as, “In tribute to …”, “In honor of…”, “On the birth of …”, etc. We do not use “In memory of” but rather “In the name of” a deceased person.
What is the contribution for a tree honorarium?
There are several levels of contributing to a tree honorarium. The highest level, at $25,000, endows your honorarium for life. At the $5,000 and $3,000 levels, your honorarium is endowed for the life of the tree or 10 years (whichever occurs first) and the exact amount is determined by location. We wish to work with you on a selection and gift amount that meets your needs.
Can other family members or friends be notified of a tree honorarium?
Yes, we take special care to notify individuals with a personal letter that will include specific information about the tree and its location.
