Photography in the Garden – Commercial

The Arboretum welcomes commercial photographers. In order to provide amenities that will ensure a successful photo shoot, the Arboretum requires an additional charge for commercial photography unrelated to weddings. Photographers will find that the Arboretum offers unique indoor and outdoor settings for catalog, fashion, and commercial photo shoots. Its features include:

  • views of White Rock Lake
  • two 19th century cabin replicas
  • a thatched roof cottage
  • two stately mansions
  • outdoor sculpture
  • misty bridge views
  • trial gardens for researchers
  • a rock quarry
  • mature trees including oaks, pines, and pecans
  • lovely varieties of flowers
  • gorgeous scenes year round

Commercial Photography – General Information
All shoots must be scheduled and paid for in advance. To make arrangements, call 214-515-6511.

  • No weekend photo shoots are allowed due to weddings and other private events.
  • Evening or indoor shoots must have prior approval from Arboretum management.

There is a four-hour payment minimum for all shoots.

  • Payment of fees and security deposits are due at least two business-days prior to the day of your shoot. A letter of confirmation or contract will be drawn up by the Arboretum Staff to reserve your dates.
  • Copy of the company’s liability insurance policy is required at least 48 hours in advance of scheduled shoot.
  • Equipment list and shoot schedule must be faxed to 214-515-6545 at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled shoot.
  • All crewmembers and those bringing equipment must be met at the gate by the Arboretum Event Facilitator assigned to your photo shoot.
  • Decisions on whether to postpone a shoot because of inclement weather should be made 24 hours in advance for re-scheduling.
  • The Arboretum reserves the right to limit, change, or re-schedule shoot locations, if necessary, due to garden maintenance, other customer rentals, or adverse weather conditions.
  • We do not guarantee the use of a golf cart or tram during your shoot. Occasionally one might be available and will be driven by an event facilitator, but this is not guaranteed for photo shoots, nor will available transport be reserved solely for this purpose.
  • Public restrooms in the garden are not available for changing clothes. If people involved in the photo shoot will be changing clothes, dressing trailers are recommended.
  • All children under age 15 must have adult supervision at all times.
  • Smoking is not allowed in any of the buildings.
  • No items can be attached in any ways to trees, buildings, water features, etc.
  • We require that you follow all the rules of etiquette outlined above. Please review those rules for garden etiquette prior to your visit.

Dressing Room- VIP Lounge located in the Administration Bldg.

Available Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, with reservation only.  This room serves as a small changing room with restroom.  Public restrooms in the garden are not available for changing.

Security Officer   (DPD)

$40.00 / hour

Important Information

  • There is a four-hour payment minimum for all shoots

  • Payment of fees and security deposits as well as evidence of general liability are due at least two business days prior to the day of your shoot.  A letter of confirmation or contract will be drawn up by the Arboretum Staff to reserve your dates.

  • Evening or indoor shoots must have prior approval from the Director of Rentals

  • No weekend photo shoots are allowed due to wedding and other private events

  • All equipment and clothing/model purposes must be detailed in an outline from the studio prior to confirmation of the shoot.  Any equipment that is not included in the outline, or added in writing before the day of the shoot, will not be allowed during the shoot. Only the names of personnel listed on the contract, and provided by the initial studio contact, will be allowed on the property at the time of the shoot.

  • Advance notice of 72 hours and specific approval per location must be given if any indoor locations are desired to be used during the shoot.

  • We do not allow the use of a golf cart or tram during your shoot.  Occasionally one might be available and will be driven by your Event Facilitator, but one will not be dedicated to your use.

  • All crew and equipment must be met at the gate by the Arboretum Event Facilitator assigned to your event.

  • Public restrooms in the garden are not available for changing

  • Dressing trailers are required for any changing of clothes, if the VIP Lounge is not rented.

  • Weather decisions should be made 24 hours in advance for re-scheduling

  • Inclement weather:  No walking on grass if frost is present. Walking on grass if frozen or if frost is present will damage the grass. Shoot will be delayed until frost is no longer present.

  • If filming on grass or inside one of the houses on the property you must provide mats to protect flooring and grass at all times.  No rolling of equipment on grass or floors is allowed at any time without a protective mat.

  • The Arboretum reserves the right to limit, change, or re-schedule shoot locations, if necessary, due to garden maintenance, other customer rentals, or adverse weather conditions

  • The Arboretum reserves the right to refuse a shoot that we consider inappropriate for our garden guests.

  • No items can be attached in any ways to trees, buildings, water features, etc

  • We do not allow balls, frisbees, bikes, scooters, roller blades, kites, balloons, or other items we feel could be potentially damaging to the grounds or guests

  • Generators are not allowed on the grounds for shooting purposes without prior approval from the Director of Rentals. Generators are allowed in the parking lot but must be supervised at all times.

  • No animals, even those that are supervised by trainers, are permitted  - except as assistants to disabled individuals

  • No unattended children under 15 are allowed. They must each be supervised by a parent.

  • There is no smoking in the buildings

  • There is no wading in the fountains or water features

  • No items are permitted in any of the water features, fountains or pools at anytime.

  • There is no climbing on trees, walls, sculptures, fountains, or water features

  • There is no picking of flowers, foliage, seeds, or leaves

  • There is no feeding of birds, squirrels, or other wildlife

  • We reserve the right to change these policies at anytime without notice
