Coming to the Garden with Children
Check the calendar before you visit for events, festivals, exhibitions and classes
Visit the Information Booth located at the main entrance for maps, free wheelchair rentals (on a first-come, first-served basis), $10 wagon rentals (not permitted in the Children's Adventure Garden), scavenger hunts and much more.
Test your Arboretum knowledge with this fun and educational tree scavenger hunt. Download the PDF and print it from home, or pick up a copy from the Information Booth. This fun activity for kids will not only entertain, but will also serve as a great guide through the gardens. Answers available here.
The Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrace is located in the Ginsburg Family Plaza just past the main entrance. Seasonal soup offerings, hot and cold sandwiches, as well as delicious fresh salads are available for purchase. Enjoy a freshly made lunch on the Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrace or order it to-go for a picnic in the garden. Or bring your own food and drink and enjoy a meal in any of our gardens.
Proceed through the Ginsburg Family Plaza to the Paseo de Flores, the main garden pathway. Along The Paseo, visitors can stop for a photo opportunity at the Magnolia Glade, the Crape Myrtle Allee, the Toad Corners Fountain, the Shadow Garden and the Pecan Grove.
Past the DeGolyer House, on the left of the Paseo, are over 200 Red Maples in the Nancy Rutchik Red Maple Rill. Follow the paths (which are ADA-compliant) toward White Rock Lake to where the Rill ends with a feature pond. Stop by the Canopy Café, located at the top of the Red Maple Rill, for quick snacks, drinks and ice cream. This dining option is open during festivals.
The Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden is just beyond the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn. Admission to this garden is $3 in addition to general garden admission. The Children's Garden Cafe by Two Sister's Catering is open weekdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering healthier dining options, including a children's menu.
