Creative Arts classes at the Dallas Arboretum give you an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a number of fun and inspired classes.

Using the garden for inspiration, these classes let you expand your creative skills and bring out your imaginative side. For more general information about adult classes, visit the Adult Programs main page. Please contact with additional questions.

This five-day intensive workshop welcomes beginners as well as more advanced students for a focused painting experience working on site at the Dallas Arboretum. You’ll develop strong fundamental painting skills and will be able to experiment with a variety of approaches and solutions to the challenges of painting outdoors. Each day will begin in the classroom for lecture, group discussion or demonstrations; students then will work at various locations throughout the Arboretum and will receive guidance and individual critique from the instructor throughout the day. Multiple opportunities for individual and group learning will contribute to your experience and growth over the course of this unique class. Not ready for the intensive five-day workshop? Emily Ramos, Fiber Finch Weaving

Winter is here and what better way to keep warm than with a handmade scarf. Using pre-warped looms, Emily will help you create a one-of-a-kind wearable art piece using a variety of colorful fibers. No prior knowledge of weaving is necessary for the 101. The 102 class will include some intermediate techniques.

This spring we have several glass classes that will whet your appetite for this versatile and magical medium. All fused glass pieces will be fired offsite and then returned to the Arboretum for pick-up. These classes fill quickly so register quickly.

Create a fabulous wearable composition starting with a piece of hand-dyed silk and adding beautiful wools and other textures. Design a unique silk felted scarf that you can wear or give as a gift. This is a fun and easy class, however, making felt requires that you be able to stand and roll, using your upper body strength.

Linda Disosway, Designs-n-Disosway

This ancient Japanese technique of dying fabric was once used to create beautiful designs on kimonos. Linda Disosway will show you how to create one-of-a-kind works of art. Using resist-dying techniques, you will learn how to stitch, fold and bind your fabric to create beautiful handmade designs on silk. No experience necessary and all supplies will be provided.

Learn slab construction methods to build and embellish your own birdbath. During the first session, you will design and construct your birdbath. Imagine being able to capture a piece of the garden and preserve it forever in pure silver. Using Precious Metal Clay (PMC) you will learn how to transform a piece of nature into a stunning pendant using molds, stamps and leaves from the garden. Materials include enough silver clay to make one or two pendants, depending upon size. No experience is necessary and all supplies will be provided.

Fall in love with Mother Nature as you learn to capture her beauty on paper. Cristie will share drawing techniques and color theory in this informal atmosphere.
