Labor Day at the Arboretum

About This Event

Bring the entire family and savor the final days of summer during Labor Day weekend.

Activities include live music all weekend at the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn, $2 hot dogs and root beer floats at Terrace Café, and complimentary beer samples at A Tasteful Place (for those 21 years and older). During the weekend, August 31 to September 2, active and retired military receive free admission with proper photo identification (offer valid at the ticket booth).

In addition to making memories, guests can cool off in the misters at the Palmer Fern Dell, relax with a family picnic in the shaded Pecan Grove, and splash around in Toad Corners or in the entry plaza fountains in the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.

Live Music at the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn
August 31- Dallas Unity String Orchestra performs from Noon to 2 p.m.
September 1- Party Machine, an Emerald City Band, brings the party to the concert stage from 2 to 4 p.m.
September 2-Missing Three Band, a versatile trio, entertains crowds with hit cover songs from a wide variety of music genres from 2 to 4 p.m

Dallas Zoo Visit
**Monday, September 2 ONLY 11:15 a.m., Entry Plaza The Dallas Zoo brings a few of their favorite friends for an animal encounter in the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. Stop by for a wild adventure with interesting critters.

Fall is for Fairy Tales in the Children’s Garden
*Begins September 1, 9:30-10 a.m., Habitats Enjoy hearing favorite fairy tales in the Habitats gallery. Take a seat in the very large bird’s nest and learn about an adventure surrounding nature or science.

Creativity Corner: Fantastic Fireworks
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Entry Plaza
Celebrate Labor Day in style with a firework ring! Come to the Creativity Corner to learn how chemical reactions cause the beautiful booming colors in the sky during our favorite firework shows. Make a firework ring out of pipe cleaners to wear in style and carry a firework throughout the day in the gardens!

Plant Lab: Natural Plant-tastic Lip Balm
11 a.m., 1 p.m., & 3 p.m., Exploration Center
In this special edition, Plant Lab participants learn to create their own lip balm using natural materials such as bees wax and coconut oil.

OmniGlobe Presentation: Shakin’ and Quakin’ in My Boots! 11:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.,
Exploration Center Earthquakes, volcanoes and mountains often appear in the same places. Come to the OmniGlobe Theater to learn how plate tectonics explains this activity

Adventure Activity: Science of Sounds
12 p.m., Exploration Center Learn about sound and test noise-making skills on a Popsicle stick kazoo.

Adventure Activity: POP! Power of Pressure
4 p.m., Exploration Center What makes things go POP?! Explore the science behind air pressure and have an explosive time!
