Majestically placed overlooking White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas, the verdant 3.5-acre garden is woven in a beautiful tapestry of ornamentally displayed fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. A Tasteful Place was inspired by the movement toward growing and eating sustainable fresh, locally grown food. It draws on age-old European gardening principles and artfully arranged features including an orchard, picnic lawn, patios and walking trails. This kitchen also serves as a site for cooking classes, demonstrations, educational programs and special events for adults and children. Visitors can sample delightful daily tastings based on the seasonal abundance of the garden’s offerings, watch demonstrations of the best growing and gardening methods, and learn about the newest and best cultivars for our region.
This will be a collaborative effort with alliances with many groups around the city already in place, that will showcase their knowledge and expertise with our Arboretum guests.
The Arboretum has partnered with Garden Home lifestyle celebrity P. Allen Smith to design the programming for A Tasteful Place to include a full calendar of educational activities, tastings, horticultural demonstrations and public festivals. We are creating a one-of-a-kind garden of nature’s bounty and educational value for North Texans – surrounded by our beloved Arboretum tradition of rich programming, gracious hospitality and the finest in garden design.
Thanks to all our donors for your help and for a wonderful ribbon cutting ceremony on October 3!
