Reserve your Girl Scouts’ spots in a Dallas Arboretum Educator-led program, designed to help Scouts accomplish all requirements to earn badges or participate in our annual Outdoor Art Adventure.

Girl Scouts in the Garden Badge Programs

Reserve your Girl Scouts’ spots in a Dallas Arboretum Educator-led program! Each program is designed to help Scouts accomplish all requirements to earn the corresponding Girl Scout badge, which can be purchased at your local GS shop. Troop leaders and chaperones are encouraged to join the fun and participate with their Scouts. At the close of the program, Scouts will receive a specially-designed Dallas Arboretum fun patch, too! Girl Scouts in the Garden Badge Programs include a combination of educational content, hands-on activities and guided exploration in the garden.

Pre-registration is required and includes all-day access to the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden and Main Garden. If you have any questions, please contact the Reservations Department by email at education@dallasarboretum.org or by phone M-F 11:00am-5:00pm at 214.515.6540.

Storybook STEM
Daisy Girl Scouts

Daisies will explore the engineering design process through storybooks both familiar and new. They will design and test a house that won’t blow down for the Three Little Pigs and create their own book monster to take home.

Spring Girl Scouts in the Garden

Bugs
Brownie Girl Scouts

10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Bugs might be a little creepy, but they’re a vital part of the environment! Discover what makes bugs such an important part of the Dallas Arboretum gardens. Look at bugs up close to explore what helps them survive (and how they help people and animals too!). Brownies will design a bug poster to teach others what they’ve learned and make a butterfly craft to take home.

Geocacher
Junior Girl Scouts
Saturday, March 7, 2020
1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Juniors will enhance their adventures by learning important orienteering skills, including how to navigate using a compass. They will make a survival keychain, then use a GPS enabled device on a Geocaching scavenger hunt through the garden. The fun continues as the troop takes an official Travel Bug to follow on its Geocaching journey!

Eating for You
Cadette Girl Scouts
Saturday, March 28, 2020
10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Cadettes will investigate food science and learn ways to manage nutrition and activity levels to grow strong and healthy. They will perform a chemistry experiment to determine Vitamin C levels in different beverages, make delicious fruit-infused water and explore the new A Tasteful Place garden. They’ll also make a lavender sachet to help them get some much needed sleep!

Painting
Brownie Girl Scouts

Brownies will develop their own style as artists as they learn to interpret and paint the world around them. After exploring different types of art, scouts will paint a landscape and a still-life using the garden as inspiration. They will also experiment with painting without using brushes and work together to create a mural.

Flowers
Junior Girl Scouts
Saturday, April 18, 2020
10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Juniors will dissect a flower to discover its amazing anatomy and explore how flowers help both humans and animals. They will explore some of the beautiful varieties of flowers at the Dallas Arboretum on a short tour, then put flowers to use by making their own fragrant floral spray. They’ll also learn the language of flowers by making a silk bouquet to keep or give to a friend.

Trees
Cadette Girl Scouts
Saturday, April 18, 2020
1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

We depend on trees in our everyday lives in ways that may be surprising! Cadette Scouts will discover amazing adaptations that help trees thrive, explore trees at the Dallas Arboretum, and investigate how to take care of trees in central Texas. They will also learn how to transfer a group photo onto a piece of wood to take home and display!

Outdoor Art Adventure

Girl Scouts Outdoor Art Adventure

10:00 to 12:00 p.m.

Outdoor Art Adventure is open to all Girl Scouts, though the activities are best suited for Daisy to Junior! Join us for a day of nature-focused arts and crafts in this come-and-go event. Each registered Scout will receive a Dallas Arboretum Fun Patch and complete most, if not all, of the requirements to obtain their Outdoor Art Badge. This event will be located in the picnic area of the Incredible Edible gallery of the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.

Scout Overnights

Girl Scouts will participate in Tree Trek, Texas Native Wetlands and OmniGlobe programs, as well as venture out on a flashlight night hike and stargaze with experienced Arboretum staff. Participants will learn how to make their own eco-pots to take home. Programming can be modified to include badges. A light evening snack and continental breakfast are included. Sleeping arrangements will be inside the Exploration Center, unless prior arrangements are approved.
