Children's Adventure Garden

Know Before You Go

  • Peak traffic times for the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden are weekdays before 2 p.m.
  • On weekdays during the school year, seven of the 17 galleries in the Children's Adventure Garden are often reserved for school groups. When applicable, closings will be posted on our website.
  • Feel free to bring your own food and drink and enjoy it in your favorite part of the garden.
  • Although you are not required to purchase tickets in advance for the Children's Adventure Garden, it is strongly recommended.
  • Parking is $15 per vehicle (free for members) and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Discounted $8 parking can be purchased online, but is also available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Information-BoothVisit the Information Booth located at the main entrance for maps, free wheelchair rentals (on a first-come, first-served basis), $10 wagon rentals (not permitted in the Children's Adventure Garden), scavenger hunts and much more.




Tree-Scavenger-HuntTest your Arboretum knowledge with this fun and educational tree scavenger hunt. Download the PDF and print it from home, or pick up a copy from the Information Booth. This fun activity for kids will not only entertain, but will also serve as a great guide through the gardens. ​Answers available here.

GiftStore200x141The Hoffman Family Gift Store is located in the Ginsburg Family Plaza near the main entrance and contains gifts and items you may need for your garden visit. You can also purchase mementos to commemorate your trip to the Arboretum. 


 


Lula-Mae​The Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrace is located in the Ginsburg Family Plaza just past the main entrance. Seasonal soup offerings, hot and cold sandwiches, as well as delicious fresh salads are available for purchase. Enjoy a freshly made lunch on the Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrace or order it to-go for a picnic in the garden.



Japanese-Cherries-and-tulips-along-the-PaseoProceed through the Ginsburg Family Plaza to the Paseo de Flores, the main garden pathway. Along The Paseo, visitors can stop for a photo opportunity at the Magnolia Glade, the Crape Myrtle Allee, the Toad Corners Fountain, the Shadow Garden and the Pecan Grove.




DeGolyer200x141The DeGolyer House is the first house to the left of the Paseo de Flores. Attached to the Estate is ​Restaurant DeGolyer. This exceptional venue, nestled in the center of our 66-acre garden, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.




Cascades-in-the-Red-Maple-RillPast the DeGolyer House, on the left of the Paseo, are over 200 Red Maples in the Nancy Rutchik Red Maple Rill. Follow the paths (which are ADA-compliant) toward White Rock Lake to where the Rill ends with a feature pond. Stop by the ​​Canopy Café​, located at the top of the Red Maple Rill, for quick snacks, drinks and ice cream. This dining option is open during festivals.


AlexCamp200x141The Paseo continues to Fogelson Fountain in front of the Alex Camp House. This house serves as an administrative building upstairs and is available for rentals downstairs. Although the interior of this building is not available for touring, visitors may walk around the outside of the Camp House towards the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn. Kids can run, play and roll on the grass hill.



Pure-Energy-Tower-and-Energy-Learning-Gallery_web​The Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden is just beyond the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn. Admission to this garden is $3 in addition to general garden admission. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for the Children’s Adventure Garden. 



TwoSisters200x141The ​Children's Adventure Garden Cafe by Two Sisters​ is open weekdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering healthier dining options, including a children's menu.

Lush-new-landscape-at-the-DeGolyer-Estate-entryThe DeGolyer House is the first house to the left of the Paseo de Flores. Tour the lavish estate with newly restored, 1940s inspired décor. Guided tours are available and self-guided tours are allowed during festivals. Docent-led tours are available during January and February.



DeGolyer-OutdoorAttached to the House is ​Restaurant DeGolyer. This exceptional venue, nestled in the center of our 66-acre garden, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Seated Tea is available at different times throughout the year, but does require advance reservations.




A-Womans-Garden13

Feel free to bring your own food and drink and enjoy a picnic in A Woman’s Garden, located behind the DeGolyer House. There are many ideal locations for a picnic for two in the formal gardens.

Follow the paths (which are ADA-compliant) toward White Rock Lake to where the Rill ends with a feature pond. Stop by the Canopy Café, located at the top of the Red Maple Rill, for quick snacks, drinks and ice cream. This dining option is open during Seasonal Festivals.


AlexCamp200x141The Paseo continues to Fogelson Fountain in front of the Alex Camp House. This house serves as an administrative building upstairs and is available for rentals downstairs. Although the interior of this building is not available for touring, visitors may walk around the outside of the Camp House towards the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn. This wide open space is perfect for enjoying a nice glass of wine and a great view of White Rock Lake.

Waterfall-in-The-Nancy-Rutchik-Red-Maple-RillContinue along the Paseo until you see the entrance to the ​Nancy Rutchik Red Maple Rill on your left. Follow the paths (which are ADA-compliant) toward White Rock Lake to where the Rill ends with a feature pond. Stop by the Canopy Café, located at the top of the Red Maple Rill, for quick snacks, drinks and ice cream. This dining option is open during Seasonal Festivals.


Alex-Camp-Home11The Fogelson Fountain is just past Canopy Cafe and sits in front of the Alex Camp House. Circle the fountain and return to the Paseo. Follow the Paseo back to the main entrance to complete your walk.
